I
work with hand made felt, dyed silk fibres, fabrics and hand and
machine embroidery to create colourful pieces, which include pictures,
hats, bags and other accessories. My work is an expression of
my love of nature and the colours, textures and details found
in the landscape and wildlife. I find inspiration from photographs
as well as sketches taken on location.
Following
a degree in textiles/embroidery at Loughborough College of Art
and Design, I spent several years teaching art at secondary level.
For the past few years I have returned to the pursuit of my own
creative expression, and have studied felt making. This has been
both inspiring and releasing in coming to grips with the process,
and discovering that gradually building up a piece is a way of
working that seems natural to me. I now combine my felt work with
part time teaching.
